Stop. Breathe.

In all the busyness of the holidays and then the Return From The Holidays, it’s easy to get trapped in the Doing. And if you’re the parent of a complicated kid, the list of “To-Do”s never ends. It might feel like you can never get a rest from Doing.

And.

Here’s the thing about Doing. It’s exhausting. Staying in “Doing Mode” will chew you up and burn you out from the inside. Maybe not today, but next year, next week, or maybe tomorrow.

You know that I will write permission slips all day long for you to take a break when you need one. So, if you feel like you need outside permission, consider it granted.

But you don’t actually need permission from anyone except yourself: to breathe, to pause, to just BE for a damn minute. Pausing for 10 seconds, 30 seconds, 5 minutes or 60 is ALLOWED. In fact, it’s required if you’re going to continue longterm.

The list will still be there, waiting for you when you return. The people around you will still be there, and they will definitely still need things. And that’s all fine.

But you matter too. And stepping out of Doing into Being is one way to remember that.

Stop. Breathe.

Happy New Year, all.
